Three things you can do now
- Create community with your passion to serve. Share with friends your desire to place serving God at the center of your life. Involve them in your quest to advance the Kingdom of God while serving the least, lost and left behind. Encourage others; educate them about the issues which move your heart. They need to understand that when one sees injustice and suffering, something must be done. Together you can build a community of like-minded people who will encourage one another, help one another, and hold one another accountable. Your vision of placing God at the center of your life thrives when it is lived out in the midst of community.
- Feed your passion for God through study. Study the Word of God first and foremost. It is the source of your life. It contains God’s clearly stated priorities for humankind and what He expects those who follow Him to do in the world. Study other cultures. Make it a point to have friends from various cultures. Expose yourself to cultural festivals, ethnic neighborhoods and ethnic foods. Read about cultures that do not have the gospel in Operation World. Study how best to help the poor.
- Expand your worldview through service. Find out what ministries are already serving the least, lost and left behind in your area and volunteer with them. Go on a short-term mission trip to a place you have never been before. Action, involvement, getting your hands dirty will do much to stoke the fires of your passion. Through involvement you will get a better picture of your skills and how you are gifted by God. You will discover if your interest in a particular hurting group is merely an interest or a passion. You will make a difference in the world.
